Non-Profit Announces Changes to Increase Impact in Sarasota-Manatee and Region

In its 35th year of providing services and impact, The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center (Glasser/Schoenbaum) proudly announces a name change to Caring Collective, to better reflect an expansion of its mission. Additionally, to honor our co-founders, Dr. Kay Glasser and Betty Schoenbaum, we have renamed our campus the Glasser/Schoenbaum Campus of Caring.

For over three decades, Glasser/Schoenbaum has become a place for diverse human services nonprofits to operate side-by-side in one location. By saving money through reduced rent and free-of-charge maintenance and operational services, these nonprofits have more resources to help men, women, and children in need. Today, 16 diverse agencies on our Glasser/Schoenbaum Campus of Caring serve over 36,500 clients annually through more than 80 total programs. Beyond our campus, our strong community partnerships include not only serving as a 2-1-1 liaison but also acting as the sole Sarasota fiscal agent for the Season of Sharing program of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Herald-Tribune.

Our region’s growth creates opportunities for Caring Collective to provide more impact. While staying true to our commitment to the human services sector, our Campus of Caring agencies, and our community partnerships, Caring Collective and our evolved mission to achieve better lives and livelihoods for all our neighbors will allow our organization to utilize our expertise and expand our partnerships outside of human services.

“Our announcement today comes after over a year of thoughtful work to define how our nonprofit can continue to make a meaningful impact,” said Charlene Altenhain, Chief Executive Officer.

“Our name, Caring Collective, recognizes our core value of Caring about nonprofits, those in need, and our community, and doing it with others Collectively,” Altenhain added.

“The Board believes that Caring Collective’s mission will allow us to continue our important work meeting our community’s human services needs while expanding beyond human services where our expertise can make a difference in our growing region,” said Gail Welch, Caring Collective Board President.

ABOUT CARING COLLECTIVE

  1. Break down barriers to make it easier for nonprofits on our Glasser/Schoenbaum Campus of Caring and in our community to operate.
